Kathleen Turner starred in this movie by controversial director Ken Russell. She portrays fashion designer Joanna Crane who's leading a secret life as a prostitute called China Blue. Anthony Perkins delivers a memorable performance as a wacky preacher.

80er-Ikone Kathleen Turner spielt die Hauptrolle in diesem Film des exzentrischen Regisseurs Ken Russell. Sie spielt eine Modedesignerin, die ein Doppelleben führt: Unter dem Namen China Blue arbeitet sie als Prostituierte. Anthony Perkins spielt mal wieder einen Psychopathen.

Portraits: David Hasselhoff (1989)

David Hasselhoff at home, 1989. These pics were taken as part of a story on Hasselhoff by a german magazine, which promoted the release of his movie "W.B., Blue and the Bean". This film was renamed in Germany to "Wings of Freedom". The reason: six months earlier Hasselhoff had a number one hit in Germany with his single "Looking For Freedom".

Diese Bilder sind Teil einer Homestory über David Hasselhoff aus dem Jahre 1989. Anlass des Berichts war der Videorelease seines Films "W.B., Blue and the Bean". Dieser hieß in Deutschland "Wings of Freedom". Grund dafür: der Titel sollte an Hasselhoffs Hit "Looking for Freedom" erinnern, der ein halbes Jahr zuvor die Charts anführte.

Combat Shock (1986)

Starting in the late 70s, New York filmmakers like Abel Ferrara and William Lustig showed us the dark side of the Big Apple: a city full of lowlifes, gangsters and psychos. Buddy Giovinazzos debut "Combat Shock" is even more disturbing than other epics of this kind like "Driller Killer" or "Maniac". It's the story of a viet vet who can't forget the horrors of the war. In addition to his post-traumatic problems, he also has to cope with his nagging wife and a mutant baby which looks like the ugly brother of the child in "Eraserhead". On top of that he has to deal with some local thugs who are after him. Sure, it's a no-budget movie. But Giovinazzo succeeds in dragging the viewer into this hell on earth. The conclusion is one of the most downbeat endings in movie history. The poster of this movie is completely misleading. Troma decided back then that another "Rambo" clone would be more successful than a grimy drama.

Seit den späten 70ern zeigten immer mehr Filmemacher die dunkle Seite von New York City. Sie porträtierten die Stadt nicht mehr als Hauptstadt der Intellektuellen, wie es zum Beispiel Woody Allen lange tat, sondern zeigten ein New York voller Gewalt, Gangster und Psychopathen. Herausragendste Beispiele dieses Trends sind vielleicht Abel Ferraras "Driller Killer" und William Lustigs "Maniac". Buddy Giovinazzo schuf mit seinem Regiedebüt "Combat Shock" einen Film, der sogar noch verstörender ist als diese Werke. Es ist die Geschichte eines Vietnamveterans, der zurück in New York nicht mehr mit seinem Leben klarkommt. Außer seinen post-traumatischen Problemen hat er auch noch mit seiner ständig nörgelnden Frau und einem mutierten Baby zu tun. Als wäre das noch nicht genug, wird er auch noch von ein paar Schlägertypen verfolgt. Zugegeben, dies ist ein No-Budget-Film, was sicherlich viele potenzielle Zuschauer abgeschreckt hat. Giovinazzo schafft es trotzdem - oder vielleicht auch gerade aufgrund des schäbigen Looks des Films und der Verpflichtung von Laiendarstellern-, den Betrachter in diese unangenehme Welt zu ziehen. Das Ende ist sicherlich eines der niederschmetterndsten der Filmgeschichte. Der Film wurde von Troma veröffentlicht, das Poster ist völlig irreführend. Die Leute von Troma waren wohl der Meinung, dass ein weiterer "Rambo"-Klon erfolgsversprechender sei als ein Post-Vietnam-Drama. 2012 soll übrigens die Verfilmung von Giovinazzos gelungenem Roman "Potsdamer Platz" in die Kinos kommen. Mickey Rourke ist definitiv dabei, Christopher Walken wird eventuell auch eine Rolle übernehmen. Regie führt niemand geringeres als Tony Scott.

Aces Go Places 4 aka Mad Mission 4 (1986)

"Aces Go Places" is one of these film series everyone loved back in the days. The movies were very fast paced, had lots of action scenes, exciting chase sequences and most importantly: They didn't take themselves seriously. In fact they played out like parodies of the James Bond movies and other action films of the time. The most notable thing about this poster may be the fact that the artist altered the faces of the actors in order to make them look less chinese.

"Mad Mission" ist eine Filmserie, die in den 80ern jeder liebte. Dass die Filme pausenlos im Fernsehen liefen zementierte ihren Kultstatus hierzulande. Das bemerkenswerteste an diesem Poster zum vierten Teil ist wohl, dass der Zeichner sich Mühe gegeben hat, den Figuren möglichst westliche Züge zu geben.
