Aces Go Places 4 aka Mad Mission 4 (1986)

"Aces Go Places" is one of these film series everyone loved back in the days. The movies were very fast paced, had lots of action scenes, exciting chase sequences and most importantly: They didn't take themselves seriously. In fact they played out like parodies of the James Bond movies and other action films of the time. The most notable thing about this poster may be the fact that the artist altered the faces of the actors in order to make them look less chinese.

"Mad Mission" ist eine Filmserie, die in den 80ern jeder liebte. Dass die Filme pausenlos im Fernsehen liefen zementierte ihren Kultstatus hierzulande. Das bemerkenswerteste an diesem Poster zum vierten Teil ist wohl, dass der Zeichner sich Mühe gegeben hat, den Figuren möglichst westliche Züge zu geben.

Body Double aka Der Tod kommt zweimal (1984)

Director Brian de Palma has always been called a Hitchock copycat. And there's some truth in it: In the 70s and 80s de Palma put out some movies which are clearly influenced by Hitchcock and pay hommage to him in various ways. Among these movies are "Sisters" (1973), "Dressed to Kill" (1980) and "Body Double" (1984). The latter is a thriller about an actor called Jake Scully (Craig Wasson) who witnesses a murder "Rear Window" style. This is a truly awesome movie. It's kind of a forgotten gem over here in Germany, not many people have seen it. If you like the movie, check out Susan Dworkins great book "Double De Palma: A Film Study With Brian De Palma". It's an in-depth look at the making of the movie.

Brian de Palma wurde immer als Hitchcock-Plagiator bezeichnet. An diesem Vorwurf ist auch etwas wahres dran: In den 70ern und 80ern drehte de Palma eine ganze Reihe von Filmen, die sehr stark von Hitchcock beeinflusst waren und ihm auf verschiedene Arten und Weisen Tribut zollten. Dazu gehören "Die Schwestern des Bösen" (1973), "Dressed to Kill" (1980) und "Der Tod kommt zweimal" (1984). Der letztgenannte Film ist in Deutschland ziemlich untergegangen und hat im Gegensatz zu vielen von de Palmas anderen Werken wie "Dressed to Kill", "Carrie" oder "Scarface" nur einen ziemlich geringen Bekanntheitsgrad. Es geht darin um den Schauspieler Jake Scully, der ganz ähnlich wie James Stewart in "Das Fenster zum Hof" einen Mord beobachtet. Der Film ist wirklich der Hammer. Sehr empfehlenswert ist Susan Dworkins Buch "Carrie. Dressed to Kill. Scarface. Und jetzt: Der Tod kommt zweimal. Brian de Palma oder wie man einen Thriller dreht", das 1985 bei Bastei-Lübbe erschienen ist.
